Community and more

I hired Maya into a role that was new territory for her, and she impressed me with how quickly she dove in, learned, and started delivering.

In her first few months at Vercel, Maya established herself as a strong community IC: eager to contribute, willing to get involved across the work, and thoughtful in how she supported the community. She brought curiosity, momentum, and a real willingness to take on what needed doing.

Her superpower is she is a great event organizer, with the care and follow-through needed to bring people together well. Excited to see what she ships next!

Thank you so much for making this incredible tool. Has genuinely made a difference in my life- I'd really struggle to find my meds without it!

Leah

Your adhd directory found me my medication better than Boots' own stock checker! Legitimate sanity saver, cannot thank you enough for giving me my brain back ✨

Thanks, I managed to get some ADD meds after months, your checker is better than the Boots one somehow!

Diana

I've not managed to find stock yet but calling 26 pharmacies so far would have been a nightmare… so thank you! One less thing to stress about.

Engineering Team

Two areas: 1 is on Front end work. Week by week you walked us through the thought process and evolution of new side bar, which I thought was really good. Brought the team along in a significant user update.

2 — You're front and centre of promoting HiPeople, whether it be personal LinkedIn posts or doing something positive for the week. e.g. evolution of celebration time you're always thinking of positive improvements.

I can't speak to improvements, but I hope you continue to develop your technical skills, it's clearly a passion and I think this skill paired with your positive disposition makes you an unstoppable force. Like a superpower. Which might sound crazy, but it's very true, you've built a ton of credibility this way and your voice is highly regarded.

People Team

I think the way you structure things is amazing! Especially for documenting but also when clarifying e.g. overall scopes / directions / overviews ... keep on doing so!!

I really like your proactive behavior. You're a real gem to the team!!

People Science Team

Before sprint: Impact when it comes to take ownership of a new complex topic. You'll create viz to enable other teams to understand the required effort on engineering side. Ask questions to frame the project and make sure you have what you need.

During sprint: fast to give alert and chat to fix problem while going. Keep update and good communication.

After sprint: Present the results before going live. Enjoyable to make some last fixes if needed. Once again, great communication and information transmission.

You have enormous potential, you are passionate and you do everything you can to ensure that our work together is flawless. It is a pleasure to interact with you on a daily basis because you use your creativity to improve the connection and understanding between our teams.

Design Team

Taking ownership and leading meetings and discussion between tech and design to clarify topics and align between stakeholders before taking a decision. Furthermore, I think you always showed great care in how you prepared for these discussion (e.g. preparing Figjam boards).

Encouraging collaboration with design on the topic of the Design System. You have been always available to discuss ideas and define together the design system in a way that will increase efficiency. I particularly appreciate you working on this as I know you are busy with other topics and this is a bit of an "extra" task.

Attention to detail and quality of the FE work. I think the design work is always carried out very meticulously and precisely.

Design Team

We have worked together for about a year and I'm really impressed with your growth! You really took on progressively more ownership, leadership and showcase your expertise in your field! Keep it going! :)

Engineering Team

Your ability to provide structure for the team (e.g. FigJam boards to dig deeper into the topics); proactivity in giving feedback (whether on design concept, or asking follow up questions during refinement); positive attitude and attention to details. You grew a lot during this last year! Keep it up!

Product Team

I think one of the first things I worked on was with partner coding with you, it was a nice way to be introduced to hipeople!

For me, you definitely had the most impact for frontend stuff, shipping really fast, good pr reviewing and task splitting! Also the storybook improvements were really cool. I really liked the win wall too :)

Engineering Team

You became the primary developer and person to talk to about frontend and design system implementation.

Engineering Team

Your demos in team meetings are so valuable. You have a clear presentation style and can show the value of new features in the platform.

You're a delight to work with. Continue to be yourself and let your energy shine through!

National Diversity Awards — Positive Role Model nominations (2019)

Over the last year or so I have worked with her and have seen first-hand the effort and enthusiasm she puts in to everything she does. She gives up huge amounts of her own time basically trying to make the world a better place and I can't think of anyone more deserving of recognition. She has a very bright future ahead of her...

I am nominating her for this award as she is an inspiration and a great role model to many people including myself. Her constant promoting of engineering and STEM has pushed me to become involved in similar pursuits, resulting in working alongside her and many others as part of the Siemens EDI (Equality, Diversity and Inclusion) team.

I have worked alongside her on many events and she puts all her passion for engineering into everything she does. She inspires many other engineers within Siemens Ashby to get involved with volunteering for STEM related events, to help promote engineering and aim to increase the amount of young people choosing engineering as a career, especially women, as there is a severe shortage of qualified engineers in the UK.

She always seems to be happy and comes across as a bubbly outgoing person even if she may not be feeling that way. She never shies away from telling people how she feels and she believes by sharing her story other people will share theirs. Her passion for promoting mental health and smashing the stigma surrounding it is inspiring to myself and probably many others and this is something I aim to help her out with in the future. She is shining example of a brilliant role model for both Diversity in Engineering and Mental health. She is a true inspiration to many of us here and truly deserving of recognition.

She is and continues to be a huge inspiration both in the workplace and her wider community. For someone so young she displays incredible wisdom and compassion for those struggling in their lives and works tirelessly to improve their opportunities and environment. And this inspiration does not solely touch the young — she reaches the minds and hearts of all. I struggle to imagine a better candidate for this award.

Not only is she thoroughly professional in the tasks she undertakes, but she also enthusiastically promotes an atmosphere of inclusivity within the company. I applaud her for this and have no hesitation in supporting her nomination for the National Diversity Awards.

Maya is very passionate about promoting diversity, encouragement of girls to take up study in engineering. She is truly a little ray of sunshine in our workplace. I had an opportunity to volunteer with her in Loughborough university women in engineering careers day. She showed a great deal of enthusiasm to encourage attendees to get into rail industry.

She is an amazing ambassador for EDI within Siemens and the whole wider Rail Industry, she is passionate about all aspects of maximising the benefits of diversity and inclusivity in the work place. Her boundless enthusiasm and passion for this topic is a real credit to her personally, she is a highly valued member of the Siemens team and makes an amazing contribution to our industry and community.

She is always striving to ensure that we have positively engaging environments for all where she actively promotes EDI and wellbeing to name a few. She has time to talk and encourages everyone to be involved at what ever level they feel comfortable with no pressure but always a fantastic smile. There is always an extra ray of sunshine when she is around and it makes for a better workplace providing an excellent role model for everyone not just young people.

She greatly champions Equality Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) at Siemens as an engineering intern whilst studying for her final year in engineering. It is clearly important to her as she stepped in to lead the EDI team which runs various initiatives throughout the year such as a Mother Language Day video to promote diversity and others like International Men's & Women's Days. On Intl. Women in Engineering Day she created an empowering campaign to highlight different women engineers throughout Siemens UK sites and their everyday hobbies to shatter stereotypes of women in engineering and celebrate their achievements.

She also held a drawing competition for young children to draw themselves as an engineer to get girls and boys to imagine themselves in different engineering careers and funded the prize herself. She is passionate about Mental Health Awareness as an active Time to Change Champion. She funded and created a Time to Talk initiative allowing staff to fill in a slip about how they are feeling, confidential and only seen by Mental Health First Aiders because she wanted to make it easier for people to talk about their mental health in the workplace.

She is an avid fundraiser raising over £2k for different charities over the past 2 years including a skydive for Mind and a 212ft abseil for Rainbows. She is a fantastic role model for young girls in STEM as a STEM Ambassador. She organised and lead an interactive event for 50 teenagers with Smallpeice org to bring awareness to careers in the rail industry. She spent several hours of her own time to organise her Future Makers event hosting 24 local school children to learn about rail. Results after the event showed significant increase in confidence in teamwork & presentation skills & motivation to go into STEM careers.

She is constantly helping others and promoting diversity & inclusion both inside and outside the workplace making her a great role model for many.
